Thanks for the imput. I think I can solve this problem now. I get very little surging(,150rpm as opposed to 200 or so), and ,the idle is more stable when cold, and the exhaust is sweet(not coolant).I did this with the dash tach, a vaccum gauge, and multimeter. Only a temporary repair, as I need the timing corrected first. The vaccum gauge now shows a smooth needle without vibration, where previously the needle vibrated 1/3 to 1/2 inch of vaccum. When this timing is done correctly, I will readjust the air screw and throttle switch screw, a final time.

The sensitive clutch issue is gone now too. Apparently, the throttle switch activation was a bit more reliable than I thought. I readjusted it closer to the .002-.004 spec. I adjusted the timing a bit by ear,and backed out the air screw on the throttle body(all with the idle stabilizer bypassed) till the idle was ok. The clutch problem disappeared. Somehow, the off idle power was not good, and easily stalled the engine when put underload.Another drivability issue related to a correctly adjusted throttle valve switch? Once again, these are preliminary adjustments to determin the needed solution.I will nail these down later.I remember when I posted earlier about this issue, a couple of others claimed simalar symptoms( bad cold idle, stalling when cold at a stop light). Try backing out the air screw adjustment with the idle stabilizer bypassed.Recheck your timing.Roger
