Not necessarily. If you read more posts you find it's very inaccurate at best. Mine was 100% on the led forever until the sender died this winter. The new sender has me at 75% a majority of the time on the freeway this winter, and a bit less around town. We have used thermal temp guns to confirm that no hose is above 180F and the block is not above 190-200F, plus my fan seldom comes on. On when standing for some time or the A/C on.

Additionally, the manual for by 1986 2.1L states "when the engine is working hard and in stop-and-go-traffic, the needle can show a very high temperature, but this in not serious as long as the warning light does not flash.".

I see to recall reading somewhere that the gauge can be as high at 11/15 with no concern. I remember laughing trying to figure out why Vw would take such an arbitrary system 1/15? When the gauge/sender highly inaccurate at best.

For those claiming my wiring is getting old the resistance of bad wiring would cause the gauge to fall not rise. Although I got another sender unit for free from the purveyor to test my theory of a bad sender, I tend to think these systems are just inaccurate or they set the "average" temp to high on the gauge. Many on here will tell you their temp gauge has said 60-75% it's whole life with no issues.

Now if you fan is on a lot you may want to bleed your system, again. Of course always check your coolant level too.

Greetings.

After reading some of the Emil's I realize that my temp. gauge on The 1990 Syncro must be above what it should be. Mine is well above the red LED and I found out that in California the fan would come on very frequently.

Any one knows what I could do to bring the temp down.

Thanks.
