If he is using the SA 5spd, this IS a stock VW transmission...everywhere
that is except Nth America.
I'll bet he's running an auto or the Porsche trans...

The 5 spd generally handles the 2.1L OK (at least this is the Aus
experience where the 5spd is the norm) but the 2.6L I5 engines that the
SA plant put in the late model T3s created problems for the manual
gearbox....so a V8 would not do it any favours unless he was gentle with
his starts off the mark. Trouble would be the resisting the urge to drag
others off :-)

I wonder how the additional rear weight of the V8 will affect the
handling characteristics? To it's detriment I suspect...

I honestly can't remember whether Russ has got a SA 5spd or a Porsche
trans. Will find out and also get pics as it goes along. He is not using
the stock Vanagon trans, that's for sure.

He does have some Boxster brakes to install, pics of them coming too.

wonder how that tranny is going to handle that much torque :(
