Subject: My Mom is now an Official vw bus owner / the search is over
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
Hello all! I am proud to introduce my mom as a new vw owner (back in the day
when i was a wee baby :) my parents had a '78 transporter, but didn't
understand how cool it was!) now she has her very own!
After the head gasket blew on her '91 Subaru - I knew there was more than
just the head gasket that was bad...so we opted to finally buy her that
camper that we had been looking for since Nov 05. And after 2 vans we had
seriously made offers on and on our way to buy them, they had fallen through
- due to the sellers rude decisions.....anyways after a long search for a
mechanically sound camper, we have finally found one!!!
It is an '80 Country Home camper, the engine was rebuilt 1500 miles ago, and
the tranny 3500 miles ago - it drives awesome and sounds great!!! I know
that many do not like the AC 2.0 T4 pushing the heavy vanagon campers, but I
have already begun to show my mom the vw way of driving an aircooled :) and
i feel with the new engine that it will last for many more years (and I can
also work on it if necessary).
anyways - he hasn't deleted his post - so you can probably see the info on
craigslist for a little while longer:
http://portland.craigslist.org/car/145187061.html
It also has:
8 gallon water storage tank, sink with both electric and hand pump,
fridge/freezer which is set up to run on propane or the 2nd battery, 2
burner propane stove, built in propane furnace with thermostat, table which
can store in the back when not needed, swivel captain seats
However - I have never owned a vw with all the propane stuff - fridge,
heater, stove - does anyone want to help my mom and I understand how all
this stuff works?! I guess the van was sitting for almost 3-4 years with the
rebuild and he hardly drove it - but never really used the propane stuff.
Anyways - so anyone have any hints on how this stuff works?! Is there a book
on how this stuff works?
BTW we are thinking of painting the bus with some of my moms business
logos/name and I wondered if anyone had done this before?
