Subject:   Brazilian LED VW (rear hatch)

Okay, a few weeks ago there was a discussion about a VW emblem that the folks in Brazil make, that can be wired up as a third brake like (replacing the circular VW emblem on late model Vanagons.

Well I went ahead and ordered it and it finally wended its way through customs to me.

1) it is EXACTLY the same size as the VW emblem (part number 251 853 601 that I removed from the back of my hatch) Note: BusDepot lists a separate 251 853 601B as the back hatch VW emblem and the previous number as the FRONT emblem...all I can report is what is on the part I took off.

2) While it is the exact same size, it is NOT a complete drop in replacement. First off, the tabs on the VW part align in a horizontal line. While the brazilan ones are at a diagonal. The VW part is press mounted into friction grommets. The Brazilian one has double sided sticky tape to hold it on. Finally, the VW one has a circular spike for alignment. That's where the wires come out on the Brazilian one.

The part from Brazil did come with a different black back ground/gasket.

I've mounted it on my camper (though I haven't run the brake wires to it yet). Something about it being 30 degrees out there with the sun shining. If I was speaking Celsius, it would be lovely. Being as how that is Farenheit, I'll wait for another (presumably warmer) weekend before fiddling on the camper.
