My somewhat ancient knowledge of Ohm's law leads me to think that the lower resistance would give MORE heat, not less. I doubt that the heating element is the problem since it is making as much heat as you say. If the chants, shaking of bags of dried chicken bones, turning the unit on it's head and giving it a kick and all don't work, you are left with the diagnosis made by the factory troubleshooting guide. I would not worry much about giving it a good shake or two and even a couple of good wallops while it is upside down. I have used several fridges that were shipped across country with minimal packaging, dropped on every side along the way, and they all worked fine, much to my relief.
