I'm told it is quite common to see E10 sold at regular gas stations (10% ethanol) in the mid-west, and no mods are required for using it. E85 is another story. I believe that is what the Brazilians run, and that high a percentage of ethanol requires modifications to the fuel system that don't seem to be terribly expensive or complicated. The U.S. automakers are now building flex-fuel cars for sale here that run on either E85 or regular gas. Most of those are sold in the upper midwest cornbelt where E85 is more commonly sold. See the websites below for more info. I have a personal interest in ethanol as a motor fuel...especially since there is work being done on using certain enzymes to convert the cellulose in plant waste (corn husks, leaves, grass) to sugars that can be distilled into ethanol (as Pres. Bush mentioned in his state of the union message). Ethanol technology is something that is available NOW that can seriously help reduce our dependence on foreign oil. I'm debating in my mind now whether or not to convert my van to diesel when the wasserboxer dies, or stay with gas in hopes that ethanol will become more available. I should mention that even today, E85 is cheaper that regular gas where it is sold and it burns much cleaner than petrol as well. Anthony '89 Syncro GL (Hidalgo)

If this has been mentioned before--sorry, I missed it. I just heard a discussion on the news this evening re BioPerformance Fuel - a pill you drop in your gas tank for better mileage.

Im sorry I dont have an answer for your question but I do have a related question and that is Ethanol......can any be dropped in the thank like many of the Brazilians are doing with their cars or is that because they have some special adaptation?
