Dan,

With that itinerary, you'd better think how you are going to handle a lot of serious heat. The south in the summer is no picnic - it's not Wisconsin! It will be good and hot by the time you get there.

You might be okay with it, but do think about how your dog will handle heat as well. Overheated animals are not happy! Maybe ensure you have the capacity to carry a good bit of ice in case it's a problem - a good cooler-sized might be a good idea. Makes a reasonable seat and step-stool for climbing into the upper bunk, too - I use mine those ways all the time, though I've avoided the south in the summer and haven't needed ice.

Keep the dog in the cooler if it gets really bad? :-)
