All of this makes me wonder how the sugar crystals get past the fuel filter.

Within the last two weeks there was a long thread on the Sugar In The Fuel Tank myth. The legend has it that this causes massive carbon build up inside the engine. Myth busted because the sugar won't dissolve in gasoline. But now, the rest of the story. Today I dropped off a set of injectors for rebuild. Got to talking to the guy, all he does is FI systems. He happened to mention that a lot of his work was 'divorce stuff', sugar in the tank revenge. I mentioned the Myth Busted aspect of this. He pulled out an example of a FI type system that is commonly plugged up with sugar in the tank. Not by carbon, just by the grains of sugar. The specific system he was showing me had a hole for the fuel that is only .017, really small, in fact I couldn't see it. In addition, after the sugar is trapped in the injector it gets hot and causes more problems. What he was saying made sense. Maybe the Carbonized Valves is a myth, but with the modern FI systems, if the sugar does get picked up from the tank, you may still be in world of hurt.
