Subject: Filling with Coolant q's
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

Greetings!

My wife and I are now the proud new owners of an 85 Westy. The van itself is in good shape, but the engine . . .

The temp gauge does not seem to work and the coolant light constantly blinks. The highest temp that the gauge has read is maybe at the 1/4 mark (not the half that I've read it should be - I only drove it home).

Upon checking the coolant, the overflow was empty and the other resevoir is half full. The previous owner had a new water pump installed a few months ago, but then put the van into storage. I'm thinking that the mechanic he took it to did not properly fill the system.

Anyway, my question: How full is the resevoir (the bottle on the left inside the engine) supposed to be? It's only half full right now, and like I said the other one is empty.

Thanks, Ryan
