Subject: Re: TIICO Automatic Transmission

No worries Ben :-)

BTW, I'd take a little less off the small weight next time around. It runs to 6000rpm at full throttle, which the engine is very happy with, however I have visions of the automatic trans cooler self destructing at that pressure. Also, if I "floor it" in 3rd at say 80km/h, it will upshift and scare the crap out of my passengers. :-() Due to limited travel of the throttle cable, full throttle also engages the tranny kick down switch, which is not ideal but easy to manage. It wasn't a big enough issue to warrant modifying the linkage for more travel.

Perhaps a safer target would be 5500rpm for max rpm. If in doubt, leave the small weight alone, and set up the low speed (larger) fly weight. That modification should be part of every I4 gas conversion.

Now that the snow is melting away, I'm looking forward to pulling "The Grape" out of storage for a summer of trouble free motoring. (ha ha ha ha) In fairness to the van, other than a rebuild shop that couldn't rebuild the starter properly in four tries, and some minor hose clamp leaks, it's been perfect since the conversion.
