On three separate trips between 1996 and 2003 (6000, 1200 and 7500 miles) I calculated MPG for my 89 Westfalia. In all three cases it was 17.3 m/US gal. Most of these miles were on US interstates or the Trans Canada highway and average speed would have been 65 mph.

Rich.

Our 86 gets only 28 mpg HWY (24 US) but our 84 GL with the 4.57 gears still gets over 30 (26 US), both at 55-60 mph. The GL gets 26 (22 US) around town, stuffed with tools and materials for work.
