Depends on your year, I've heard folks say it can be done form the front, with the grille off.

That particular method won't work on my '85 (there's a flat featurless expanse of metal above the left headlight where folks have told me the antenna mount should be).

I've decided to live with 'floppy antenna syndrome' until I have a more pressing need to pull the dash...

So, take off your grille and have a look, maybe you'll be luckier than me!
