BioDiesel isn't just made from Fish and Chips or Egg Rolls. A liter of
Canola oil is about the same price as a liter of Diesel fuel when you buy
the Canola in bulk quantise and bulk quantise are less than what most people
consume on a weekly basis. Think of how cheap it would be if you bought
1000s of liters of the stuff.
We have farmers out there in Canada and the USA who are complaining they
don't have enough profit in what they are making and we end up getting the
government to pay them to grow wheat for a world that already has too much
wheat. If the government would just realize that BioDiesel from Canola or
Sunflower oil is quite simple and cheap to make and significantly better for
the environment as it is green house gas neutral when you burn it (plant
absorbs the same amount of CO2 as burning it produced) we would be much
better off. We will pass on a better life for our current population as we
bring wealth to them by buying their products that is produced here and we
make a better life for the next generations as we will reduce the GHGs we
produce.
Good ole GW has said it himself, the USA has to get off of it's addiction to
fossil fuels that is provided by foreign countries (Canada and Mexico
combined sells more to the USA than Saudi Arabia by the way!) and find a
different source. There is too much palm greasing out there from big
companies trying to pay their stock holders to put a real focus on the
farmers and live up to Ford and Diesel's vision of a vehicle not power by
fossil fuels, rather fuels produced in the field.
Ford's idea of Ethanol is good, but it takes more energy to make it than it
does BioDiesel. On a per liter basis there is also more energy in BioDiesel
than ethanol. There is more energy in a liter of gasoline than ethanol!
It seems obvious to me we need to pay attention to the people at home in our
own regions, provide them with jobs, a decent rate of pay and a cheap means
of going from place A to place B.
