Funny how universal this topic is... I purchased a '89 34' Bounder Class A motorhome in October of 2005 to use "camping" instead of my '93 EV MV and the '79 LT 28 D highroof as neither V-dub has a proper bathroom... On the Yahoo Bounder group I've been reading many of the same type posts as I see on the Vanagon List ie: Gas prices, dual/multiple battery set-ups, and such... Lots of good suggestions on both lists for all kinds of problems... The average Class A gets 6.5-7.5 mpg at 65-70 mph, the thing that makes a significant difference is slowing down to average 55 mph, numerous anecdotes of 15% savings... Check out the archives on dual battery set-ups in the Yahoo Bounder group... I have dual 6V Trojan T125 deep cycles (house batteries) with a Trojan 12V Marine starting battery (coach battery). As the motorhome is stored for the winter I use a tiny Craftsman 1.5 amp maintenance charger for the coach battery and the 120V/12V converter plugged in to shore power to keep the house batteries up to snuff...
