You mean to tell me that you have never pulled this thing apart on the
inside and you have done how many engine conversions???  Wow.

I have just done it to my 85.

Some advice...

Don't use undercoating - the POR 15 will do what the undercoating will do,
but better.  The under coating seems to always remain gooey and sticky.
Be prepared to spray the top coat when the POR 15 is tacky as paint won't
stick to it dry without prep and it is difficult to sand well.
Fix all of the rust when you are in there.
Eliminate the two external water filler outlets as those are most likely the
rust culprits anyway.  Fill the water tank internally.
Remove the insulation and replace with sealed foam insulation or some other
kind of insulation that will not trap water internally to it.  I have chosen
to use the (Home Depot) bubble wrap style house insulation attached to the
wall boards, not the metal.  I also used Second Skin Damplifier and their
white sound deadening paint called firewall on the metal side of the wall of
the van.  So there is a large (hopefully sealed) mass of air between the
metal wall and the wood paneling.  Dead air is a good insulator.
Clean the fridge and upgrade it according to the vanagon.com instructions.

By the way, I have decided to install my propex in the kitchen unit,
directly behind the driver's wheel well hump.  The heater's fresh air in and
exhaust out vents are pointed toward the driver's side front tire.  While
the kitchen unit is out is a good time to do some imagin-eering like this.

Subject: I'm pulling the interior in my westy - what should I do next?

I've started to pull the interior of my westy so that we can get to the seam

behind the water cabinet as it is going to be painted next week. We're

going to blast the seam, inside and out, use POR-15 to treat the area, then

paint, then undercoating on the inside of the vehicle to seal it up 100%.

My Westy has the yellow fibreglass insulation on the inside, is there

anything that is better to use now? Also, I have the classic 1986 striped

interior, well on the back seat and mattress anyhow as I have some Recaros

up front, is there a good source for a more tasteful seat and mattress

covering?
