This is REALLY simple with a sawzall, you really can't go very wrong.
I started cutting at the front (well inboard of the edges) downwards
until the resistance in the blade indicates your've hit the lower seat
base, it gives you your reference point and you can cut from there.
Some people wand to cut this hyper acurrately so they can re -use the
cur plate as adoor, but I find that the stock carpet is an adequate
enough (and stealthy) cover. Stealth is WAY better than any lock.

I laid soundproofing down so I can't accurately measure the size of
the opening but it is roughly 3" tall by 13" wide (at the top...
basically the same width as the upper lip). The lower side is a bit
more narrow because of the slope of the wheel well.

Regarding the relay, I think it would be a heck of a long reach
through the driver's seat, and its unlikely you'd be able to see what
you're doing. Then again, I'm not sure why you'd need access to the
relay after you've completed your aux battery install. You could of
course always move the relay if there is a need for easy access.
