Subject: Re: Ebay CV "kit"....is it any good?

I use 2 rebuilt axels on my westy. Got them from pep boys and one from advance auto. They came with grease and the joints were pressed onto an axel. They had two new boots per axel.Cost $99/each.No shipping charges. I have about 30K on them. No problems. I remember one being an empi joint.Out of the box, and up onto the flanges they went. No additional press work at the local gas station,or grease,or boots to buy.At the time I was puttin money hand over fist into my vanagon, and had to call it quits around this time.Bought these rebuilts instead of new.If you can get the joints pressed on for free, reuse the old boots. I have never seen origional boots go bad. This will keep your cv axel costs way down.I think BD has a joint kit.You need two per axel+ press work and grease.I think the total per axel will be about $180/axel when done.

Now, I have heard of large numbers of rebuilt axels coming out of the box and not working correctly(ie: no complete unobstructed circular motion). This dosent mean that they are bad axels, only assembeled incorrectly.Got to remove all the little balls and put them in right-then grease it up.Most people just send them back.An educational opportunity, it is.This is my experience w/rebuilts.
