These can be successfully welded. I have run one in my '81 for about ten years--after breaking several at the thread shoulder just as you write Here's a photo: http://jones.colorado.edu/jones/droplink.jpg Only thing wrong was the bolt was just a little longer than the original threads. That made it a little harder to get it into the control arm mount. Richard A Jones Boulder, Colorado
