Initially I was thinking like you, dooley. But it appears that if he could get the cylinders to separate from the case so the head (with cylinders) would extend out from the waterjacket a bit, he'd be better off. He's thinking the head is seized to a stud preventing it from moving outward at all. So ... the rope trick or using the engine's compression just might work for him.
