Suprised to hear of the injector screwups, as well as the other posters experience with his 2.2. I have the 2.4 and have very few issues at all with the engine and have put close to 20K miles on it. Am in touch with the valve adj. screw fracturing though.. A real pain in the rear.. I've gotten to where I carry spares along with spare valve cover gaskets. (replaced 3 of them to date) Evidently its a common problem across rebuilders, as one of the mechanics I use here in town (used to work for the VW dealer, now on his own, Doug of Doug's Bugs and Bunnies (in Mesa AZ)) said he had see it before.. not much to do but just swap out with another batch, frustrating. Cant complain about the 2.4L lots of power, nice torque. Its still no SVX or Porsche or Maxima engine, but its not bad at al. I can also take my vehicle to any decent VW mechanic and still get the thing serviced (a big plus for me) -tim 90 syncro westy |
