I think sometimes it's actually the other way around... that is an ad
will claim something is being sold because of "the wife", because it
seems like a plausible reason other than the possible negative ones (too
expensive to maintain, etc...), even though it has nothing to do with
it. We're often all to eager to latch on to those explanations (fits
our experiences or expectations or whatever), and so we instantly trust
the ads motivation. Maybe I'm over analyzing, but I've definitely got
this feeling about some ads before.
