I have an auto tranny so I am practically oblivious to these "shift point" things, but I do know that the wasserboxer is quite happy between 2K and 4K, and you don't have to worry about over revving until somewhere up above 5K. I run my 2.1 Boston Bob rebuild at 70MPH/4100RPM for hours on end. Oil temp sits right about 190-195degF, water temp dead center on the LED. My gas mileage is abyssmal, but that's my punishment for trying to keep up with freeway traffic in Los Angeles... 2K to 4K being the "peakiest" part of the torque curve, you should shift up around 4K and down around 2K "for best results".
