Of course, it depends on many factors but, about 2 years ago I replaced the grommets, crossover tube and fuel gauge sender on my '85 Westy and careful inspection showed no rust inside.

About the only way to be sure is to drop the tank and check it out.

FWIW, my '58 Frogeye Sprite still has the original tank and it's not rusty, either.
