I think you might be right. Joel suggested cleaning the rubber and mating metal surface carefully, which I did. Then I removed the cover off the slider track and lubricated everything, and adjusted the pawl that latches the door in the open position, it had worked loose.

But after a number of tries, peering into the mechanism as it operated and trying to get a feel for where the catch was, it seemed apparent that the locking catch at the rear, the one that rotates on a rod and looks like the end of an open-end wrench, is not letting go as it should.

How did you adjust that cable?
