Subject: GoWesty Engine - Follow-up
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

Just a follow-up... in January I was looking for a replacement engine. I went with the GoWesty engine. I had a 1.9L and they do a replacement that increases the bore and stroke to get 2.2L -- but using the 1.9 case so it drops right in. I wasn't particularly looking for more power, this is just how they rebuild the 1.9.

It took the 8 weeks stated on their website and I had it installed locally by a guy I've used before. Just 400 miles on it but 'so far so good'. The power increase is noticeable, especially running up the mountain. I did not need a new ECU (the website warned that this is sometimes necessary). They did make two mistakes... first they forgot to include the injectors (sent 4 right away by express mail) then one of those proved to be incorrect (perhaps for a different VW engine) and they sent a replacement for it right away.

Waiting to see how they treat me on the core I returned (how much of the $1K core deposit I get back) and whether they will reimburse me anything for the time the mechanic billed me to discover that it was an incorrect injector and replace it with one of my old ones.

Not the last word... indeed, ask me in 100,000 miles for a definitve answer... but hopefully I'm back in business for a long time to come.
