Pop the little rubber cap off of the base of the wiper arm. Using a 10mm wrench, undo the nut that secures it to the post.

Clean all the soft metal from the splines on the post then refit the wiper arm in the proper position and tighten the nut down. The splines on the post will cut new grooves into the soft metal of the wiper arm and all should be well again.

If too much of the arm's soft metal is gone, you might have to add a small washer under the nut so it will push the arm into good contact with the post.

When the wipers are turned on, the driver's side wiper works as it should, while the passenger side wiper moves spastically if at all, sometimes even crossing over into the path of the driver's side wiper. When this happens, it stops the motion of the driver's side wiper, I have to pull over, and attempt to seperate the wipers. After just a few moments usually, the same thing crops up again. > > Any ideas on how to deal with this problem? > > Thanks, > Mark Baker > '87 Vanagon GL > > > --------------------------------- > How low will we go?
