Remove the black caps at the base of the wiper arms and check the nuts for tightness. If they still come loose after tightening, the arms are stripped out and they will have to be replaced.

An odd problem came up in my '87 GL lately, and I've been unable to find a solution in the archives.

It seems the windshield wiper on the passenger side has developed a mind of it's own. When the wipers are turned on, the driver's side wiper works as it should, while the passenger side wiper moves spastically if at all, sometimes even crossing over into the path of the driver's side wiper. When this happens, it stops the motion of the driver's side wiper, I have to pull over, and attempt to seperate the wipers. After just a few moments usually, the same thing crops up again.

Any ideas on how to deal with this problem?

Thanks, Mark Baker '87 Vanagon GL
