Hi, my engine was leaking bad from the passenger side also. I dropped the head, put some RTV, new gaskets and it is back running like a champ with basically the same milage as yours. I figure I can squeeze a few more miles out of it before I have to replace it. Might be worth a try. BTW thanks to all of you who gave me the necessary information on the removal and replacement of the head and then some. Makes it quite a bit simpler to do tha job. Thanks Jaime ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert Campbell To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Friday, April 14, 2006 4:34 PM Subject: Comments wanted: Rebuilt Wasserboxer 2.1, AVP (Bus Depot) & GoWesty

Hello Vanagonauts,

So, I'm approaching the day when I'll need a new engine. My trusty Carat is now >172K miles and the leak in the passenger head is getting worse -- this is my daily driver.

Can some folks out there with FIRST HAND knowledge chime in with comments on why you would use the GoWest Rebuilt Wasserboxer 2.1 ($3495 + $1500 core) or the AVP Rebuilt Wasserboxer 2.1 ($1800 + $800 core)? I'm not basing everything on price, but I'd like to hear some words from those of you who actually HAVE either of these installed and running for some time.

In grazing through the archives, the information seems to get emotionally charged pretty quick. I'm not looking for opinions here, just the facts from those who have these engines installed.

So, if you have the AVP (from Bus Depot) or a GoWesty rebuilt running in your Van, can you let me know if you are satisfied with it? How long you've been running (miles/km)? And, would you use the engine again?

Of course, I could end up just replacing the heads..... ($1000 for a set from both Bus Depot and GoWesty).

Thanks for your input!!

-Robert Campbell
