Subject: AT or diff noises ?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed

I have some horrible clackety grinding noises coming from the tranny area. I changed an axle last night and drove it a few miles, everything fine. My wife gets stranded today when she hears this nasty sound from the rear. I can get it to stop for a while if I back up a few feet. Then it's back at the next bump or at random. This is the second axle from BD in three weeks. The first one was bad from the get go. This one felt right when I installed it. Transmission is automatic and may have 210,000 miles on it. It shifts fine. Does this sound like differential failure? Help, my wife is crying and my 81 is waiting for a gas tank. I'm down to 1 out of 3 running. When she stops crying she's just going to be pissed.
