I know its not exactly the same engine you are considering, but I have a GoWesty 2.4 in my 90 syncro westy, and I'm pleased with it so far. I like Lucas's approach to the choice of components and design of the engine. It doesnt make my van a 0-60mph screamer, but helps a *lot* in getting up the hills and delaying the inevitable shift into 3rd. They were also the *only* rebuilder that I found offering a 4 year, 48K mile warranty. (I presume they still do?) just over 20K miles on mine, coming up on two years or so you have to run premium due to the higher compression ratio but other than that, I dont really see any negative. I can take the van to any competent VW mechanic and they can work on it just fine. In fact, one of the guys here locally was thinking about ordering one to put in a baja bug. 2.4L?? in a bug??? with watercooling, you could run A/C as well! (not sure if he ever did that or not.. seems pretty expensive) but hey, come August, the heat here in AZ will make anyone start to get a little cuckoo! -tim |
