Interesting link. But if I can express my admittedly biased opinion, compared to the design of my Ezy-Awning, this is very rudimentary ... yet it costs the same. As near as I can tell, functionally it's not much different from a tarp with poles. Our Ezy-Awning attaches to your stock rain gutter (with optional mounts available for other uses). This one requires something to be mounted to your vehicle that you can wrap straps around ... but there is nothing on a Vanagon roof to strap it to. Our Ezy-Awning is domed so rain rolls off. This one has no supports across the roof center at all, so it will sag in the rain. If you've ever used a tarp as a makeshift awning, and ended up bailing huge puddles of rain off of the top of it during a downpour, you know what why the Ezy Awning was designed with a domed roof. If you don't have a domed roof, you must have a center support to prevent rain sag. Our Ezy awning does not require guy ropes, and also has optional mounts to allow it to attach to your jackpoints or under your wheels. These mounts make it fully self-supporting, so you can use it on pavement. By attaching the mounts to your jackpoints or under your tires, your Vanagon's own weight holds the awning down. Their design requires guy ropes and stakes, or optional 25 lb. sand bags if you don't want to stake it down. That's 50 lbs. of sand you have to carry around!
