Re: Water Pump...what's the Death Knell??

I first noticed the odd drop of coolant coming from the left back side of the engine after it had cooled down in it's parking spot. I keep cardboard on the floor under my engine so I can read it's different coloured liquid progress reports. It took a real good hard look to find that it was coming from the small weep hole in the bottom of the water pump above the oil cooler... that was my first yellow flag (or message).....next I started to noticed a low growl, when the engine was running and I had the engine cover open. I pin pointed this growl by taking a long screw driver (you can use a stick or sawed off broom handle) and putting one end on different parts of the engine and the other end (I recommend the rounded end ;^) up to my ear... just like a Dr. does with a stethoscope....... Bingo.... the growl was coming from in the water pump. I put in a new OEM and it's been about 60k-km and it's still quiet and dry.

In my old age I have learned there are two types of life maintenance

you either listen closely to what is being said and read the body language. or you are always putting out fires and cleaning up messes after being told.

pay now or pay more later.... you do have a choice.
