Thanks for the math. We're planning a trip from Oklahoma City to Santa Fe
and back in late summer, and that does help put potential costs in
perspective. Gas is $2.67 here as of yesterday, and I'm not looking forward
to what it might be in August, especially since prices escalate going west.
Just for general info, the last gas I bought when I left Austin, Texas in
1974 was 25 cents per gallon. I was driving a 350 c.i. GMC van with a
four-barrel. Imagine the lousy mileage. Still, travel north-east wasn't all
that expensive. A year later it hit $1.75 or higher. History does repeat
itself.
