This might qualify as Frydaye.

Part of the joy of maintaining and upgrading a Vanagon is the fruits of your labor, taking credit when things go well and turn out successfully.

Conversely, one must stand up and admit when things do not go so well; the mistakes rest squarely on the shoulders of the guy turning the wrenches. Essentially, there is nobody else to blame when things don't work.

In talking with Tom Shiels, who did the perfect and amazing work on my harness, we figured out that I had connected two dual diode wires together to run the tach.

This was a mistake.

The result was that all of the plugs were firing at once, or not at all. No start. Two little bitty wires.

I'm certain that the fuel wash issue was directly related to my initial ineptitude with the timing belt, and was compounded by connecting two wires that were never supposed to be connected.

For what it's worth, Tom laid out the directions for me so well that a 2 year old could have done it correctly. Unfortunately, my intellect on occasion only rivals that of an 18 month-old.

As I just announced on the SubaruVanagon list, feel free to come by my house and kick me squarely in the butt.

Happy Friday, Joe T. Running EJ22 Vanagon, in spite of myself.
