Some times it is not the tube part of the pipe that goes but the flanges where the pipes bolt together. If the flange gets corroded away and you can't make a good seal between the pipes then this would also be cause to replace everything and start over. Take a look at them. If they look good and the headers look solid then you could probably get away with just replacing the cast iron "y" part and the connector pipe to the cat with new gaskets. We have these parts in stock if you need them. Hope this helps. Greetings, This is my first post after lurking on, and enjoying the list for over 6 months. Our 90 GL has a rusted connector pipe, the 12 inch segment that connects the catalytic converter to the connector manifold. I'm going to replace it. I was wondering if the group had any advice as to whether or not I should replace more sections while I'm at it. I strongly believe in doing the job "once and right". Are there other pieces that are probably near death? I did the tap test with a wrench and the headers seem to be solid. The tail pipe is toast and I'll replace that for sure. So, I guess I'm wondering if I should just replace all but the two sections of header that attach to the block. If the answers to this are in the archives, then I'm sorry for using bandwidth.
