First off, if you ever sell your van, an AC unit will be a definitely plus to anyone outside the Pacific NW. And since West coast vans tend to have less rust than east coast vans you have a better chance of getting a rich east coaster to buy it, especially with AC. The overhead AC in your 84 also more rare (if it is the type that has the evaporator up front just behind the 2 front seats. Later Vanagons had the evaporator all the way in the rear and duct work all the way forward. That overhead type is something that might interest a Westfalia owner, to squeeze in. At any rate, if you are going to remove it, do a clean job, and post it on ebay. Someone is likely to spring for it.
