here we go. this is all in the archives and there have been great flair ups in the past over it. shear in the case of this bolt DOES NOT mean that the bolt (ie body) shears, it does mean that during manufacture when torqued the bolt head shears off the fastner. this was designed as an anti-theft aid, hence the difficulty you have in taking the bolts out to get the column loose from the dash. think about it if these were special shear in the case of accidents bolts they would be demarked just like other stretch to yield fastners in the bentley and the would have regular heads just like those fastners do.
