My cars average 38 years old (the Westy is the 'new' one at just 22).  I
seem to recall that a significant portion of the pollution generated by
a vehicle is the pollution that is a by-product of its manufacturer.  I
never buy new vehicles and drive the used vehicles I do buy for decades
rather than years.  In proper tune they are not horrific polluters, get
good mileage and are very cheap to own and operate.
