Katrina's effect on the Texas Gulf cost was very little. Back and
running in less than two weeks and most of that was due to power
problems.  BMI and Slumber J (sp) have metal I-beams (or something)  on
top if some earth berms. They slide (attach) metal plates to the beams
to stop the waves and most of the rising tide waters. Pumps in a  water
ditch on the plant side take of whatever water makes it past the
barrier.  No Down time for them. DUH!!

If Bush would have froze the price of gas for the time of the
hurricanes, both of them ,(6-8 weeks?) he would gained  a lot of support
back. It would have been the honorable thing to do.  Exxon-Mobile made
$300 Billion dollars during that quarter. Some friends of mine have oil
revenue, not much really, but they do not see $70.00 dollars a barrel.

During the gas shortage in the late 70's, More oil came through the port
of Houston that ever before. It was made up. No shortage at all

In rural Texas, almost no one lives close to work. The wife drive to
work. We shop once a month, Doctor visits, there is not much you can do
about that. Church is 5 miles away. If we need to go the lumber yard,
WallyMart or some where I go to work with her. Bicycles are not
possible, except for working out, or fun. Try to get my 50 year wife to
drive a motorcycle   to work, would take more than I could do. And for
all year long Yea Right!!!. Me, not a problem, been there, done it, have
the tear shirt too.

Wife drives over a hour to work. Thats why we are selling our house and
moving closer to her work. Not in the city, but if we can get where we
want to it will be about 9 miles to work. But no increase in salaries,
to make up for the higher cost of fuel.
Something will have to give before long

Let Mexico or Venezuela open a chain of gas stations and see what
happens to the domestic oil companies.  When I worked for a engineering
company that specialized in CAT Cracking and other refinery stuff, we
were going to do a major expansion, and up date the old stuff to be
cleaner, for a very large oil company, they put it on hold because they
didn't know how Al Gore was going to effect things. They never did it.

No new refinery's have been built in the USA for over 20 years.
