Subject: Baltimore/central Maryland locals?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

Hey all,

Just wondering how many Vanagon folks here are living in the central Maryland/Baltimore area?

You can reply off list.

I'm still considering ebaying my '80, the beast. I've had it/driven it for nearly 7-8 years now between fixing things.

I bought it for $500 plus a few hundred to get it past inspection and tagged and have put a fair amount in it as things came up...as they do with something 26 years old.

I recently took the tags off telling myself I was going to do body and paint, fix the clutch slave and do rear brake work this summer.

Now that she's sitting there staring at me though I'm not sure I really have the time or means to do what's demanded and it may be best to opt to see if someone is willing to take on a new project for whatever price she brings.

Her current state could probably be driven a short distance if the brake/clutch reservoir was kept full though there are no tags. This is probably not optimal though.

...other stuff

3 CVs rebuilt in '98, new gas tank shortly after (still a slight drip when completely full so one of the seals isn't good or in right), new exhaust 2 years ago, 3 rebuilt injectors and new cold start this year. Cosmetically rough...big dent in rear of sliding door and front of right rear quarter but door does work unhindered, rust around window seals of most windows except windshield. PO had it repainted but this is dead also.

but ran okay...though some trouble idling until it gets hot. Never threw much heat being air cooled.

Have original AC compressor in a box from PO. I would expect restoring the AC would be costly and not terribly good for power so I never did it.

Secondary gas fired heater installed but disconnected since I've had it. All glass is uncracked/unbroken.

...thoughts on value?

This was used as a work truck...hauling equipment around and never needed to be pretty but mechanically there is a basis for something here if someone has the time and inspiration.
