Depends on the failure. It can fool the ECU into thinking the engine is always warm (which will cause symptoms like hard start when cold), or fool the ECU into thinking the engine is always cold (which will take the O2 sensor out of the loop all the time, affecting gas mileage, and making warm starts harder).
