Even if it costs you $1,000 more than it would have cost last year it's still worth the trip....ask anyone who has done it.

Alaska (and the Yukon/BC) is incredible in the summer. Long days, lots of nature.

Thousands of places to stealth camp for free. Cook your own meals to save money...you've got a Westy, use it! Also, you will smile to yourself every time you see a 45 foot motorhome filling up.

Things we liked on our trip (all on the Canadian side):

Liard Hotsprings northern BC near the Yukon border. Rustic hot springs in the middle of nowhere.

Atlin BC, an hour off the ALCAN but a neat little town, worth visiting, especially if you can take the glacier tour by small airplane. The plane ride over glaciers was the highlight of our trip, well worth the money.

Dawson City, Yukon. The site of the "Alaska" gold rush. Great museum and wonderfully restored gold rush buildings. In the late 1890's Dawson was the biggest city west of Chicago and North of San Francisco.

The scenic Dempster highway north of Dawson, stay below 50 MPH and you won't blow your tires. Drive up the Artic Circle marker or all the way to Inuvik which has a great municipal campground.

Top of the World highway between Dawson and Tok Alaska, very scenic.
