Hi

I have a hole in my Vanagon (several), but one is under the speeder, where the heel rests.

I remove the rubbermat, and found out that it seems to be that there is a factory applied layer of rubber.

IT is painted in the cars original color.

THis layer turns stiff by age, and craks.

Water runs in under it, and eats away the bottom - from above.

I removed the layer of old rubber in my van, and when it gets a bit varmer, I will rust treat it, and weld in a new piece of metal under the speeder.

Check your car in that spot, you might be rusting through from above too.

Happy driVWing

Jens Jakob
