I just wanted throw in some wisdom I gained through our Suzuki
Samurai about tires. It's not vanagon content, but it does have a
'91 1.6 turbo diesel in it!
When we first built the BioZuk, (it runs 100% biodiesel) We put
monster mud tires on it, thinking they were the schiz.
Well, in the forest... they tore up every piece of moss they tracked
on. They sounded SO loud on the highway, it was unbearable, and...
they handled really poorly on the road.
I changed them out to Toyo Open Countries, which are all terrain
tires. It is now quiet on the road, safe in the rain (the other tires
were scary!) and it off roads as good as ever. I do the same trails,
and I have not gotten them to even spin. The tires don't get clogged.
It doesn't tear up moss and the like, and leaves a much smaller
footprint.
I sometimes think that the bigger, badder, better is a disease of
More! More! More!. I had caught it too!
