Gary and fellow vanagon types From the price difference alone I would say that he was quoted for rebuilt head at the local flaps The AMC heads have had a reputaion for valve stem falure this has been discussed on this list back 5 + years ago. from go westys web site you would think he came up with the problem and the solution all at once. I have been using AMC heads ONLY on my engines for many years with no valve problems. I do not use the valves that come with the heads and I touch up the valve job and then hot tank the heads to remove the grease Marnel uses to assemble the heads. I then use a good quality valve and a positive locking method to keep the keepers from wiping out the 3 grooves in the valve stem. All aftermarket valves I have tested are not as hard at the grooves as the OEM valves are No all AMC heads are NOT the same Bob Donalds Boston Engine http://www.bostonengine.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "gary hradek" <hradek@YAHOO.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Friday, April 28, 2006 10:56 PM Subject: [Norton AntiSpam] New AMC heads - all the same?
