Had an interesting (hah!) time installing a temporary front diff into my camper. Seems that the front diff on the donor had a 3-4 mm spacer between the right inner cv joint and the flange on the diff. Per the Bentley it is supposed to be there. I don't recall it on my original front diff on my camper (either side)...but we had a problem putting the cv joint back on (I was not turning the wrench on those) in that only about 3 or so threads were extending beyond the spacer. In sufficient to hold the CV joint on. We temporarily pulled the spacer and attached things (torqued 'em too) without. Seemed okay (though a SEPARATE CV joint was giving us a clunk clunk at the back...but that I suspect is a completely separate issue.) Or maybe not. Maybe the CV joint fairy moved a needed spacer from the rear to the front and is playing tricks on us. I'm tired, grubby and wanting to get my camper back on the road...but am heading out this weekend in a different vehicle (standard passenger syncro instead of the camper.) |
