Subject: clutch lever has left the housing(Thank you. Thank you very much)

Yuck yuck. Well ,The clutch lever came off without too much trouble. Here is how I did it. First, the trans is not currently installed in a vheicle. However, I think my method of lever removel will work for an installed trans. I got resopnseds last week, from my reaquest for help, from folks who used a torch to heat the lever, and one who used a puller. I searched for pullers that had little feet that would fit behind the lever. Btween the lever and trans. Couldnt find any that came near small enough. There must be a VW way that needed to be discovered.

With the snap ring removed, a dose or two of liquid wrench, I stuck a standard Sears Craftsman screw driver between the trans case and lever. The space is enough to stick the end of this screw driver there(edge wise),but not much more. The end of the screw driver is tapered , and I used this as a wedge(about 3/8 inch small). It only took a small amount of average tapping with the hammer to start getting results. Soon, the lever was almost off the spline. I worked from several angles. Finally, I just pryed wirth the screw driver, like I usually do for this type of thing. Clink, it fell on the concrete.

I think this will work from the bottom, in a trans that is still installed. It was so ez. This operation may not be in the archives. I searched and found 3 entries, I think. Now I can POR-15 my clutch slave cylinder mount. Nasty, rusty thing.
