Subject: Lake Superior Westy Roadtrip Report

Westy travellers interested in visiting the Lake Superior region may want to check out the travelogue and photos of our recent visit there:

The highlights of our two-week, 1000-mile circumnavigation of Superior include Madeline Island in the Apostles, Duluth and the Arrowhead Country of northern Minnesota, Fort William near Thunder Bay, the North Shore and Sault Ste. Marie, the historic Copper Country of Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, and many scenic and historic points in between. We were especially entranced by the Keweenaw Peninsula, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, so we lingered several days here, exploring the old copper mines, lighthouses, rugged coastline, and camping at the 1800s fort.

We stuck pretty close to the shore for the entire route, and orbited in a clockwise fashion, affording the best views of the lakeshore outside the passenger window. The various geological and glacial activity which occurred throughout the upper Great Lakes region is on full display around Superior, giving her arguably the most scenic and ruggedly beautiful shores of any of the Lakes.

Enjoy!
