I agree with Shawn. Try the linkage adjustments first. Attached is a zip file with a few descriptions of how to do this. Look at the smallest and most recent files with Dennis Haynes in the file name. I just adjusted mine to stop having to push it far to the left for 1st and 2nd. I did too much adjustment (more than the directed one spline and lost 1st completely. Then I moved it back a tiny bit and now have much better shifting than before. Might try a bit more micro movement to see if other improvement can be obtained. I still might be one spline too much.

It really is an easy job. I took photos and intend to write it up, but haven't done that yet.' Clutch problems are likely to make the transmission fail to disengage. If it disengages and just won't go into these gears, it is more likely to be something else.

If the simple adjustments don't work there are more complex ones described in the material also.
